Waiting

 Staring at the big-breasted angel

The misery of waiting hits me

3 hours late for a zoo date with my older brother.

Gazing past the parking lot of a Motel 6

The world's cruel stillness embodies me

1 day after my dad's missed funeral.

Counting down the days to leave my grandparents' house in the burbs

Writing future fantasy novels for my creepy boyfriend

Years before high school graduation.

Running, running, running

I am the wind banging every piece of metal in its path

Only to realize that running begets more waiting.

Where are you trying to go so fast?

You ask me after a couple of months

If I don't slow down, I may never learn how to move along.
