Grandma and her Homegirls

Grandma and her homegirls

Babs Flossie Kitty Dot

Take turns driving to church

I don’t yet understand

Adult relationship dynamics

In a conscious way

I focus on the lifestyle details

If the devil can’t reach you

He’ll send a man who is jealous

Of you and your carpool

Be prepared to tear through hell

In your ‘92 Buick

With a rusted out bottom

Looking all dolled up

QUICKENING

Something in me moves.

It’s not alive, though,

more like a sliding door

pushed aside smoothly in its track

not making a sound.

All of a sudden a new hallway

appears where there was

once a wall.

My chest flushes,

looking.

Humans are amphibians, salamander,
The world is pregnant with God:
drip drip drip drip.

Salamanders are pilgrims, martyrs too!
The water is turning to Blood:
drip drip drip drip.

Martyrs are flowers, near the road,
The asphalt yearns to be loved:
drip drip drip drip
