BIRTHDAY PARTY

If I love you
I will show up early and leave late
Bring tequila, grapefruits, limes, a bag of ice
Dance and sing and smile til everything hurts
In exchange all I want is
 the music inside me
Turn it all the way up
As I take the speaker into my hands
Hold the beat to my ribs, my diaphragm,
Vibrating the pain
Strumming my pelvic floor
holding me together
A stroke of luck to be here

Seasons

When I wake up and it's
cold
And my eyes are going to
sting when I'm running
I think of how bad about
myself
I always feel on the first
beautiful day
Of the year
How I didn't get enough
done
When it was nasty and
miserable
And then I'm fine

rough draft prayer

To desire is not to want

but to need.

Desire is a recognition

and surrender to God’s Will.

God’s Will  is the hunger

of reality. I desire wrath,

I desire judgement.

I confess the sin of Pride.

Father, help me to

not be arrogant enough to

believe that  I can forgive

every sin, every transgression,

every murder;  that I can redeem

what is truly lost and evil.

Almighty Lord,

I pray for your Wrath.

For the enemies of Good to feel fear,

for their families to starve,

for them to be beaten in the streets,

for them to watch their teeth rot away,

for their humiliation,

for their shame to be overwhelming

until death.

Almighty Lord,

I pray for your Judgement

on this Nation,

for their hatred and lies,

for their vacuous, soulless eyes.

Strengthen the hand of their adversaries,

quicken their marches,

guide their swords to wicked flesh.

Heavenly Father,

forgive me for I am full of pride,

arrogant to believe that I can

forgive what I cannot fathom,

what I cannot stand nor stomach;

arrogant to believe that I possess

your soft and brutal grace,

your irrational and gratuitous mercy.
