There is a twinkle in my eye
from stepping on the rake in the yard
bonked in the face by the work my parent's left in what is now
my front yard.
My eyes crossed, bluebirds did circle. My scar was this twinkle!
That's pretty good isn't it?
My therapist looks at me with her brow furrowed but a smile on her face.
Is this your sitcom again?
Yes! I think there is a lot to work with here!
Many years ago when she
chided me for making a joke out of everything
I remember sighing,
crying, then
replying
Yes yes I know but I promise
laughing is what makes it all real to me.
I remembered the quote in my AP Lit text book prefacing Hamlet
"The world is a comedy to those who think and a tragedy to those who feel"
and of course...we all do all?!
I say this to my therapist
She shifts her stare
Okay, well let's pave the road that this laughter builds.
Today she stares
Tears stream down my face
You know, the writing on this show
has really improved.
Parks and Rec Season 2 style or
David Lynch coming back for the season 2 finale
They have awards for this very thing!
She gives me a laugh
so I sob and sob and shake and shake
the room is blurry but the kleenex box she hands me shifts into focus.
Like a wonderful, wild woman once said
laughing and crying you know it's the same
release.
Love how the Kleenex box coming into focus makes it real — like laughing does <3
