I know a short king

Who has been “dying”

Since the pandemic 

And it’s kind of untoward to be like

“What's up with your health?”

So I’m taking an unusual interest 

In Ray J’s prognosis 

Even though I don’t know Ray J

It’s a permission slip to 

Have thoughts and feelings 

About the sort of person 

Who announces to strangers 

That they’re dying

Without having to discuss my own life 

But I also have this other

Insufferable, wet blanket friend

And I’d like to say something to him like

“Wow it’s wild that Ray J is dying.”

But I don’t because
He’ll be like, “You know Ray J?!??”

And then act like I’m a parasocial lunatic…

I’ve never asked around but

I think that’s why no one likes him

Because they feel rejected and unsafe

When they try to test drive 

Emotional vulnerability

Via a discussion of Ray J
